Eight Fresh Emoji Designs Set to Debut on iPhones with Upcoming iOS Update

Apple is preparing to roll out iOS 26.4, which will introduce eight brand-new emoji characters to iPhone users. Currently undergoing beta testing, this software update includes various enhancements such as artificial intelligence-powered playlist creation for Apple Music and enhanced encryption support for RCS messaging.

The emoji additions stem from Unicode Version 17.0, an international emoji specification that was published on September 9, 2025. While Unicode establishes the standards for new emoji characters, individual technology companies must design their own visual interpretations. Apple’s latest beta showcases their artistic take on these newly standardized symbols, following Google’s lead in implementing Unicode 17 support on the same day the standard was announced.

The upcoming emoji collection features eight distinct designs:

• Distorted Face: Features a fish-eye lens effect with enlarged eyes positioned on the sides of the head, conveying a startled expression that’s likely to become popular in digital conversations.

• Fight Cloud: Represents the classic cartoon dust cloud typically seen during animated scuffles.

• Ballet Dancer: Depicts a graceful performer balanced on a single foot in a classic dance pose.

• Orca: A killer whale representation that surprisingly wasn’t previously available in emoji form.

• Hairy Creature: An emoji version of the legendary Bigfoot or Sasquatch.

• Trombone: A straightforward musical instrument emoji featuring the brass wind instrument.

• Landslide: Shows a large boulder with smaller rocks tumbling down its side.

• Treasure Chest: An elaborate design featuring an open chest filled with valuable items including a crown, golden coins, precious gems, and jewelry.

These emoji characters are expected to launch alongside iOS 26.4, though Apple hasn’t announced a specific release timeline. Based on previous update patterns, particularly last year’s iOS 18.4 release on March 31, users can anticipate seeing these new emoji options on their devices sometime before April.
